Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at admin@alchemycosmetica.com.au if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Microshading gives a more defined, solid appearance, and is usually a longer-lasting option, whereas microblading [hair strokes], involves cosmetic tattooing with tiny lines/strokes in a design which gives the appearance of hair/s.

Hair strokes alone, with no background, will require re-touching more frequently than microshading.

A good, longer lasting option can be a combination of both types of micro-pigmentation - microshading & microblading.  Alchemy Cosmetica specialises in combination brows which provides a realisitic appearance of both shading throughout the brow with fine hairstrokes strategically placed carefully in the brow to simulate the most realistic looking eyebrows possible.

We will obviously discuss these options with you and work to achieve the best results for your eyebrows!

At Alchemy Cosmetica, we usually allow between 90 - 120 minutes for each micropigmentation treatment.  Often, for your eyebrows, the longest part of the appointment can be the consultation element and drawing on the brow shape to achieve what the client wants. We try to spend as much time as we need getting them as perfect as possible to what the client is wanting to achieve.

The actual tattooing part usually takes around 45 - 60 minutes.

Unfortunately there is no short answer to this question, but let me explain as it is dependant on many factors, such as:

  • The quality and tone of the pigments used plays a large part.  Very dark pigments last a lot longer than lighter shades.  Blonde to light brown microblading will usually need a refresh within 8-12 months.
  • Microblading does not usually last as long as Microshading as the pigment is implanted in thin strokes with a microblade.  Quite often the blading is shallow and the pigment placement is not as deep into the derma layer of the skin.
  • Microshading which is a tattoo machine method, penetrates further into the skin placing a measured amount of pigment [dots] into the dermal layer.
  • We highly recommend returning for the 6-8 week touch-up treatment to ensure that the density of the pigment is reinforced in a second treatment.  This usually ensures a longer lasting pigmentation.
  • Environmental factors such as long exposure to UV light [tanning and not using sun protection] will eventually fade the cosmetic tattooing.
  • It should also be noted those with oilier skin, will fade faster than those with drier skin types.
  • Managing the aftercare process is crucial to ensuring the longevity of the treatment and ability for the pigment to embed into the dermal layer of the skin.
  • Generally, the treatment is considered semi-permanent; though in many cases you will always have some pigment remaining in the skin.
  • To keep your cosmetic tattooing more permanent and crisp, we recommend a touch-up treatment every 12-18 months.
